Cooing at sunrise, droppings streaking down the roof, and a scratching shuffle above the bedroom. The gap under a solar panel is the best possum free real estate a pigeon will ever find: warm, sheltered, off the ground and safe from everything except us.
OCG proofs solar panels with purpose made clip on mesh across Liverpool, Casula and South West Sydney. The nests come out, the mesh goes on, the pigeons move on.
Droppings are acidic and they do not stay on the tiles. They streak the panels, and soiled panels produce less power. Nesting material packs into the ventilation gap the panels need to stay cool, and hot panels lose output too. Birds shuffle against the cabling under the array, droppings corrode fittings, and a nest sitting on wiring is a risk nobody wants above their ceiling. Then there is the noise at 5am and the bird mites that follow nesting birds into the roof. The longer a colony sits, the bigger the clean out.
The newer estates across Prestons, Edmondson Park, Gregory Hills and Oran Park have put thousands of panels on new roofs in a few short years, and the local pigeons have noticed. The older suburbs are not immune, panels over terracotta in Lurnea and Casula give birds both the panel gap and the tile gaps. Once one array in a street hosts a colony, the neighbours are next, which is why we often mesh two or three roofs in the same street.
The mesh attaches to the panel frames with purpose made clips. Nothing is drilled, screwed or glued to the panels, the frames or the roof, and your mounting system is untouched. As with anything fitted near your system, check your own installer’s terms if you want certainty in writing.
You can, but the pigeons rebuild in days because the space is exactly what they want. Meshing the perimeter is the fix. Removal without proofing is rent, proofing is ownership.
No. It sits around the perimeter gap, not over the glass, so light, airflow and access for panel maintenance are preserved.
It is UV stable and made for rooftop exposure, fitted once and expected to give years of service. We tell you the material life on the quote.
Quoted from the number of panels, the roof height and access, and how much clean out the colony has left us. No call out fee, and the price is fixed before we start.
Tell us how many panels and what you are seeing, and we will give you a straight price to clear it and mesh it.
